AI Usage Policy for Reviewers
In order to safeguard the integrity, confidentiality, and quality of peer review, the Advances in Civil Engineering and Environmental Science (ACEES) journal permits reviewers to use artificial-intelligence (AI) tools (for example, large-language models) only under the following COPE-aligned conditions:
Human Oversight & Accountability
Reviewers remain fully responsible for all opinions, criticisms, and recommendations in their reports. AI may assist with language polishing or structuring, but must never substitute expert judgment or the final evaluation decision.
Confidentiality Protection
Manuscript text, figures, data, or any proprietary material must not be entered into public AI platforms that retain or learn from user inputs. Reviewers must ensure that all confidential content stays within the journal's secure submission system.
Full Disclosure
Any use of AI (e.g., for grammar checks, summarization, or outline drafting) must be declared to the editor at the time of review submission. This transparency allows the editorial team to assess the appropriateness of AI assistance.
Ethical Integrity
AI tools must not be used to generate scientific critique, validate data, or assess originality; these core review tasks require expert human analysis.
